Well It finally happened. After a year of driving around a blue minivan, I got my own car. A 2014 Honda Accord coupe ex-l trim with an 2.4 I4 mated to an cvt(yes, yes I know). I'm sure everybody already knows about this, since I have blabbed about how much I love it already, but the blabbing will continue. Deal with it. Anyways i've has the car for almost a month now, and a writeup about my car will be coming soon. I already have a name in mind, but I would like some suggestions.

I4 Honda Accord with a CVT? GTFO. Get right TFO. Do not pass go do not collect $200.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:28 |

You should name it Geoff.
Honest car. Honest name.
And you can explain to your friends how someone on a blog told you to name your car Geoff LOL
Not Jeff. GEOFF.

something with a C would work well...
I don't know why, but it looks like a "cass" or "cassie" to me...

"business account" or "The Business"
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:30 |

Are you referring to the cvt part? because yes I know. But I honestly can't complain because it is an awesome car. I will be trying to get a yugo, or something in a manual later.

How have you not killed yourself from having to use that truly terribad infotainment system? I messed around with it last year at the auto show and just changing the radio stations was a nightmare. I couldn't figure out how the hell to make presets, either. And confirming my personal experiences, Consumer Reports listed Honda's infotainment system in the Accord as one of the worst out there.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:32 |

HAHA! I am seriously considering this. lol. I haven't seen this review yet.

aaarrRRrRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH............
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:33 |

This. Because having an easy-to-spell name, but spelling it in an unusual way so everyone gets it wrong is awesome.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:34 |

Whatever gets you off, man.
I'd name it Henriette. Or Muriel.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:35 |

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but you're saying this is your first car? Nice. Mine was a $280 farm truck. Don't let anyone diss the CVT; anything's more fun than a 2x4 farm truck. And I got a lot of fun out of that truck.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:36 |

Now I don't feel so bad for you getting on my case for the DCT last night, haha

I though Accord owners just left it on NPR all the time?

Mercedes

Even computer controlled clutches are better than the rubber bands and oatmeal that is the CVT.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:41 |
|
I think it's pretty good. I like it actually, a lot.Took me all of 5 minutes to figure out how to fully use the thing. it's simplistic, and it easy to use, except it's nested menus are overdone. But i'm not surprised there are better things out there, I felt like it was lacking to some of the other systems, but there aren't many out there that can beat it in my opinion. But if you want to upgrade to a better system in the future will be an ABSOLUTE BITCH, or extremely expensive if done professionally

i briefly dated a girl with a nissan sentra. the rubber bands in her CVT broke. luckily she was covered under warranty or she would be screwed. literally screwed as she was broke and had no money for a new transmission.
hey can we rob a bank or something to come up with the cash to buy nicholas cage's former car?

I get why people are dissing it, purists mostly, but I like it. My first was a minivan as I previously stated before. ALOT OF FUN was had in the backseat(because it's stripped out) lol.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:43 |
|
(you probably already guessed why but just in case you didn't - everyone says every new coupe looks like the accord coupe, especially the mercedes coupes. that's why i suggested mercedes...)
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:43 |

I really don't know what to think of this name. Are you trying to say it looks like one, or are you comparing the cal to this or what? Or are you not referring to the brand at all?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:45 |
|
haha i anticipated your question and typed up a follow up
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:45 |

I've actually never driven a car with a CVT, but if it's anything like a hydrostatic transmission in a tractor, they I'd take it over an automatic any day. If you don't get the fun of shifting, you might as well get an extra smooth ride and a little more power out of the deal.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:45 |
|
Not at all. lol. Country, metal, rock, but mostly rap with the bass turned up.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:48 |
|
Thats what I was guessing. (The CLA looks like this)
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:49 |

Luckily, people that buy CVT cars are probably leasing them.
My respect for Nick Cage just went through the roof. I also want that car more than any Ferrari this side of an Enzo. I also like the Options they list- Interval wipers! Power locks! Passenger airbag, that wasn't federally mandated by 2005 was it!
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:50 |
|
It's smooth for sure. But you do get flappy paddles if you want a little more fun.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:51 |

I think the Accord coupe looks really good. That's why new cars keep looking like it.
I thought the Mercedes C Class coupe looked a lot like from the 3/4 view
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:51 |

And the windows down?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:55 |

Honda did a REALLY good job with their cvt though. It really doesn't feel anything like the band and mush of other cvt's i've been in/ driven
![]() 02/20/2014 at 01:57 |
|
This poor gal owns the car. And she didn't know what a CVT was when she bought it...
Nick Cage is the man. He may be a questionable actor and he's been in some questionable movies. But he LOVES cars. And exotic scorpions. And he got this thing with a gated shifter.
I seriously want that car too. I'm so glad it's in Nor Cal. If it was down here I'd go drive it. Then once I drove it I'd be in love. Then I'd try to find shady ways to finance it. Like hard money loans where I lose a finger every time I'm late on a payment.
That option list is awesome. This was my favorite option: "Tachometer"
Not "Yellow Tachometer" or "Red Tachometer" as you sometimes see in Ferrari ads to point out which color was used. Just plain old "Tachometer". Tachometers weren't federally mandated either by 2005, were they?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:03 |
|
No. Only when it's warm, sunny, and i'm playing country music. You know those summer days. But the car has decent speakers. The mirrors shake, and the car does too if you turn up the bass all the way.

I believe this is called "post-purchase rationalization", or buyers Stockholm Syndrome.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:05 |

Yeah, I love the design of it. The shoulder lines, and the lines 0n the door really make the car pop. the cla looks a lot like it front/side. Look at the hood lines, and the lines on the door.

![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:09 |

By the way was an MT an option?
I heard Honda is offering the Accord with an MT again. I thought that was pretty cool of them.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:09 |
|
No, I really am being serious. It doesn't feel mushy or slow at all. It's actually surprisingly quick revving for a cvt. I never go above 2ooorpms in the city, 3000rpms on the highway. It doesn't need to go above that ever if you're driving it normally. But it sounds really nice when you get above 4000rpms.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:11 |
|
There is for the lower trims I believe. But there isn't one for the leather trimed or ex-l package (which is what I got). The only way to get the ex-l trim and an manual is if you get it with a v6.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:14 |
|
Oh I see. Bummer they didn't offer it for all trims. That would have been pretty cool because most cars in this segment don't have an MT option.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:15 |
|
I think the base Tundra came with no tach recently, so I don't think it's mandated.
Have you ever seen the video Nick Cage Loses His Shit ?
I didn't know he was a car guy. I'd never have guessed his F car was a manual. Maybe I'll go see his next movie, just because.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:22 |
|
No way! I didn't know that. I know most people don't look at the tach but come on Toyota, you can't be that cheap... What if your car is having an issue and you're trying to pay attention to when your AT is shifting? No tach is inexcusable.
I have not seen that video. About to watch it right now.
Yeah he is a huge car guy. He loves them too much. They are one of the reasons he went bankrupt:

Let me set the scene : Singhjr96 rolls up to the line in his Accord coupe, his 2.4l engine humming threateningly. He is sipping a Monster Energy drink, and he's here to show down all who laugh at his CVT. He points to the Mustang GT next to him, nods, and points down the road. He wants to race. He rolls down the window, Hank Jr. blasting out of the car, windows shaking, as he hands his wager, $5,000 in cash, to the organizer who puts a wad of it into his pocket. Everyone there feels the bass of Born To Boogie coming from the Accord. Singhjr96 rolls up his window. He revved the engine, listening to VTEC kick in as he popped his CVT into D. It's time.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:26 |

I can't say I blame him for blowing his money on cars but he should know better. Abuse it and you'll lose it!

LMAO. THE EPICNESS!!!!! I don't drink energy drinks. How about a protein shake. And born to boogie? really? How about the jake owen, or like jason aldean. OR OR THE BARBIE SONG, and then some a$ap, k-dot(kendrick lamar), or kanye. (i'm trying to keep it as ridiculous as possible)
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:34 |

then
or
If anybody has a gt in the seattle area, we have to film this sometime seriously.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:34 |

that video was awesome!
why couldn't we have had his career? all he has to do is yell and flip out.
man he has been in a lot of movies. per wikipedia:
Cage is known for his prolificacy, appearing in at least one film per year, nearly every year since 1980 (with the exception of 1985 and 1991).
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:37 |

HEY, I LIKE MY LEATHER SEATS! You can't get a manual with the ex-l trim. Besides if it was me, I would've gotten a v6 with a manual, but it wasn't fully upto me. Also I refer you to my previous comment. I'm going to buy my own car too hoon around soon. I'm already at a couple hundred out of the $2000 that I want to spend.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:39 |

You're most offended by Born To Boogie? Really?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:42 |
|
Its obvious now, you need to call it "the business"
you can tell people "I got the coupe, because it tells people that I work hard, and I play hard. It also has the engine all the kids like. A 1.4L I VTEC. I could have gotten the bigger engine, but its fine its fiiiineeee "
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:43 |
|
No. It just doesn't seem right. I mean if you were scripting it out, wouldn't you want to be first like super ricey, and make it dramatic in the end? Right? But No i'm not at all offended by born to boogie.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:43 |
|
That's a lot of movies. There's a reason he's known for quantity rather than quality. I wonder how hard it would be to get into acting? I mean he just flips out all day and he's an A list celebrity with tons of money.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:46 |
|
Dramatic? I was going for a comedic effect in a serious setting. Trust me, there was plenty of drama going on there that day. Nobody would expect B2B but there it was, blasting loud and clear for the world to hear. And feel. I almost went with Great Balls Of Fire, but we can do the Barbie song if you prefer.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:48 |
|
Ok I get what you were doing. We seriously should do this. Just some thug looking cholos, on a foggy night in the mountains, some hired guys with machine guns, and some muscle cars, then I roll up playing the barbie song. We should make like a full on oppolock movie. Have a scene about or loving. Have everybody post their bits and have someone cut it all together.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:51 |

Since the color is MSM, use that as the initials for the name.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:52 |

I see it wasn't hard for him. He was born into it. Then changed his name to try to hide the fact that he was born into it:
"The son of comparative literature professor August Coppola (a brother of director Francis Ford Coppola ) and dancer/choreographer Joy Vogelsang, Cage changed his name early in his career to make his own reputation"
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:53 |

We could have a viral youtube video script going here. How much power do you think you can squeeze out of that thing?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 02:54 |

Uh it's got 185 bhp and 181 in torque.
have the barbie part and the money then have it start off all dramatic like this
We have to include orlove. Also yourstereotypicalindian and his love for nice wheels and the frs.

![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:08 |

This exposes the only major plot hole- if you have a CVT, you can't just shift when you need a convenient extra 300 horsepower. You'll need to install NOS to level the field.
And I agree, they must be there. Indian can race you and Orlove can be there to roll you back on your wheels if you fall of the cliff.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:11 |
|
When you do this there needs to bean epic amount of shifting in your CVT equipped car. . .
![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:11 |

Oh ok I see how it is. Bro I respected you Bro. Why you gotta be like that bro? Huh Bro?
![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:13 |

Well if you could figure out a way to do this without upgrading or destroying my car, that would be great. (voids warranty, and this car has to last me a while)
![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:16 |
|
We can just take like a 1 second clip of me pressing that paddles and play that sound/clip a bunch of times. lol. I'm not expecting this to be high quality, and I want it to be a bunch of scences chopped together to give it a comedic value.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:27 |
|
Nitrous done right will not harm your car. You can also take it off if you're worried about the warranty. You can probably get a safe kit for around $400-$500.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 03:29 |
|
I'm saving up for a yugo though. Besides, it can only handle 6pounds of boost before you have to start upgrading internals so I don't think thats a good idea unless i upgrade internals first. (which I will do we I have driven it for a while) Can't we just like show me opening up the trunk or something with an old scuba tank with nos sharpied across it? I seriously want to make this a crappy cheap put together in a basement, chopped together sorta video.

Shit, I know my dad does.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 05:55 |

Well, the first thing that came to mind upon reading the cvt part was "Kevin" so...
Whatever it ends up being, its going to be related to the cvt. It sounds like that's its ome main flaw, and flaws are always where the best names come from.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 06:54 |
|
A NOS sticker should just do the trick
![]() 02/20/2014 at 07:40 |

Call it "2015 Mustang"
Does it have the paddles? I think it does. I happen to think that the CVT is the best execution of a CVT by any OEM and with the paddles, its uncanny how quickly it goes to the programmed rev when you hit them.
Its a very good car and you will enjoy it. Make it your own if you want with some wheels, whatever mod. FYI, your car was probably assembled in proud Ohioans I've passed by on my daily commute.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 09:33 |

THANKYOU. Here is someone who appreciate the cvt. yeah it was made in Ohio. Plus the cvt revs real nicely. It sounds amazing above 4000rpms.

I like the way Honda tunes their auto transmission. My Honda Pilot never feels like it is in the wrong gear, and the car doesn't hesitate to downshift and go to red line. The auto in my dad's truck however is extremely frustrating.
![]() 02/20/2014 at 16:10 |

The one in my dodge grand caravan took forever to windup. The transmission in my accord is really quick compared to most of the cars out there.
